Stephen Colbert on Mormons

I saw this video a few weeks ago and loved it. I couldn't find it on YouTube, but I was able to find it on his website. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/394360/august-10-2011/yaweh-or-no-way----mormons---god-s-poll-numbers.

I thought that this video showed a positive view of Mormonism and of Mitt Romney. Still the majority of people think that mormons are "weird". Stephen Colbert is hilarious and i love how he uses humor to show how people are idiots for thinking Mormons are weird.

A little intro

There are a few reasons why I wanted to do a blog on Mormonism. The first reason is because I am one. I believe it, I live it and I love it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a major part of who I am. The second reason is because as a Mormon I feel very misunderstood by the general public at times. I will be posting articles and videos about Mormonism that I find in the media. I will also be answering some of the most common questions that I hear from those questioning the religion.

About me

I was born in Georgia and grew up in Utah and Massachusetts. I grew up in a family of 10 and value my relationship with each parent and sibling even though we sometimes share different beliefs and lifestyles. I served a mission for the LDS church from 2004 - 2006 in Trujillo, Peru. I met my wife Sophia after the mission and we got married in 2007. We have a 2 year old girl names Eden, and we're expecting a boy this November. I joined the National Guard and ROTC program in 2010 and plan on commissioning active duty in the Army next spring.

I wasn't always a believer in the church. From a young age I did go to church and I did try to obey the commandments, but I had doubts. I spent years trying to figure out if the church was true. When I was 17 I came to a pivotal time in my life. I thought it would be necessary to figure out if it were true or not. If it wasn't, I would seek out a different path in life. If it was true, I would devote my life to it. I spent months researching the doctrine. I read through books and articles, listened to different points of view, and asked questions to those I trusted. I read through the Book of Mormon and I prayed for an answer. I finally prayed one night with a willingness to follow whichever answer I was given. I received a distinct and undeniable answer. After the prayer I had the immediate thought to open the Book of Mormon to a random page. When I opened the book my eyes were drawn to Mosiah chapter 4 verse 9. After reading this verse I had a feeling that is difficult to describe with words. But I knew at that point, without a doubt, that God existed and that the book I had in my hands was true. I also knew that since the book was true that the church was true too.

Since this defining experience I have tried to live my life in accordance with the gospel. I have tried to make good choices and treat others with love and respect.
